OEOSC
The Optics and Electro-Optics Standards Council was incorporated in 1996 to act as the administrator of the ANSI/OEOSC Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to the Organization for International Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) 172 - Optics and Photonics. The TAG is a committee made up of U.S. optical experts whose primary responsibility is to review drafts of proposed international optical standards so that it can formulate the U.S. opinion of the suitability of those drafts to become international standards, and to transmit that opinion, through ANSI, to the ISO technical committee. The committee is also responsible for reviewing U.S. national optical standards to determine which of them should be offered as drafts for new international optical standards.
OEOSC is also the administrator of the ANSI Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) OP - Optics and Electro-Optical Standards. This group is responsible for developing and managing US national optical standards. Currently OP is concentrating upon updating and approving several of the old military standards as voluntary national standards. OP meets in San Jose, California in January during Photonics West. There is unusually at least one other meeting during the year.
OEOSC is incorporated in the State of Arizona with its office in Rochester, New York.
OEOSC is governed by a Board of Officers and Directors who are members of the optics community. The annual meeting is usually held in January during SPIE's Photonics West in San Jose, California.
