Reason for Interest. In the box below, please describe why you are materially interested in the development of optical standards either for the US or internationally.

Qualifications. Please describe in the box below how you are qualified to provide expertise in optics.

Commitment. Check this box to indicate that if your membership is accepted, you will actively work to develop optical standards.

Optical Standards are developed both for national use and international use. The Organization for International Standardization (ISO) is responsible for managing those standards that cover international trade. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is the official representative of the United States on those ISO technical committees (TC) that are of interest to US manufacturers. Therefore, all correspondence to ISO is channeled through ANSI.

Optical technical experts who establish the official US position with respect to international standards do so through the ANSI/OEOSC Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to ISO/TC 172 whose title is “Optics and photonics.” TC 172 has seven subcommittees to cover various segments of optics. Please check those working groups for which you have expertise and are willing to actively participate.

SC 1 - Fundamental Standards
WG 1 - General optical test methods
WG 2 - Preparations of drawings for optical elements and systems
WG 3 - Environmental test methods
WG 4 - Data transfer: contents and management

SC 3 - Optical Materials and Components
WG 1 - Raw optical glass
WG 2 - Coatings
WG 3 - Characterization of IR materials

WG 6 - Optical components and their test methods
WG 7 - Electro-optical systems other than lasers

ASC OP "Committee for Optics and Electro-Optical Instruments"
In addition to TAG participation, you may also become a member of the ASC OP national standards committee.  Currently there are three active task forces.  Select those on which you are willing to actively participate.

  • TF 2 – Optical Surface Imperfections
  • TF 3 – Measurement of Optical Wavefronts
  • TF 4 – Conversion of ISO 10110 Series of Standards to American National Standards

In order to ensure that all interests are represented in the development of standards, ANSI requires that OEOSC define specific interest groups that pertain to the field of optics, and to report committee membership by those interest groups. Please select the interest group that best describes you.

Producer – One who produces optical components for sale
User-Industrial – One who purchases optical components to integrate into products
General Interest – One who has an academic or personal interest in optical components and products

OEOSC was created for the single purpose of managing the national standards committee and the advisory group to the international standards committee. OEOSC finances its dues to ANSI, the tracking of standards correspondence, and meeting arrangements through the sales of published standards and soliciting participation fees from those who are members of ANSI/OEOSC TAG to ISO/TC 172, and OP. Fees are assessed based upon four types of participants:
  • Self-employed or academic experts
  • Individual company experts
  • Trade organizations and professional societies
  • Corporate sponsors

Please select the one fee that corresponds to your status.
